Discord currently specifies MP3 files no larger than 512 KB and sounds no longer than 5 seconds. This editor uses a slightly shorter 4.8-second maximum for breathing room around MP3 encoding padding. It creates a file for later upload; it does not post sounds directly to your Discord server.
To add the MP3 to your server, open Discord on desktop or in a desktop browser, use the server Soundboard's Add Sound option, give the sound a name, and save. You need the appropriate server permission. If upload fails despite a valid file, check available Soundboard slots and your server permissions as well as file rules.
All exports are encoded as MP3 by a self-hosted, replaceable encoder that is included in the production build. Original audio stays on your device. For related graphics, try our Discord Emoji Compressor.
Discord's published limit is 5 seconds. This tool defaults to a safer 4.8-second clip and verifies the generated file before download.
Discord officially lists MP3 as its upload format. This tool exports MP3 for the best chance of compatibility. Source WAV and other files can be decoded when your browser supports them.
You can prepare and download an MP3 on a phone if your browser supports audio processing, but Discord's current guide says adding sounds is available on its desktop app or desktop browser.
Check the 5-second and 512 KB rules first. Also check that the Soundboard has free slots and your role has Create Expressions permission. A Discord-side upload issue can still occur even with a valid MP3.
No. Files are decoded, trimmed and encoded on your device. MP3 encoding runs on your device using a library hosted with this tool; your audio is not transmitted for processing.
